Question & Answer Session:

Q: Is forklift certification required?
A: OSHA’s requirements for certification are pretty lax, meaning that a warehouse manager could certify his employees. OSHA doesn’t require your employees to be certified by an outside agency, which is what I recommend. However, there are many companies who offer training kits so you can certify your employees and I would recommend this if you can’t afford an outside agency or you just don’t have the resources to take your staff on a field trip.

A quick note about training - I have been through the ringer before on forklift training and most companies want to do it themselves without properly understanding the real meaning behind “certification” – it’s about safety, and then secondary is training the person how to drive a forklift.

Q: The injuries in the private industry, is that statistic for warehouses?
A: That statistic is across all industries. I truly feel that adding this to a warehouse safety webinar represents the seriousness of being safe no matter where you work.

**Nonfatal injuries and illnesses, private industry - Total recordable cases = 4,002,700 in 2007.
Bureau of Labor Statistics - Injuries, Illnesses, and Fatalities

Q: Who do you recommend for forklift certification?
A: There are a number of companies that specialize in this, not to mention that your local forklift dealer can offer training as well. Here are a few companies that might interest you:
Q: Will the presentation be available in Audio, Audio+Video, text, etc?
A: A copy of the presentation, along with a recording of the webinar will be posted in this forum.
